This is a joint initiative between Oldham Libraries and NHS Oldham aimed at helping people with anxiety, stress and depression. It involves a healthcare professional recommending a particular book from a list which other people with similar problems have found useful.
If you are recommended a book in this way, it can be collected from your local library by handing in the leaflet, and will be issued for up to 9 weeks. The healthcare professional will then support you in working through the book, either by phone or in person.
You do not have to be a member of the library already to use the service, as you can join when you go to collect the book. The service is confidential, and the library staff will treat you with respect and offer any help you need to obtain books or information. They may also have information on local groups who may be able to help.
For more information about the scheme, ask at your GP surgery or your local library.
