Economic Downturn

It is certain that the recent economic crisis we are experiencing will be impacting on local business and residents in Oldham, bearing on levels of stress and anxiety due to uncertainty, debt or employment issues.

It is normal to feel worried, anxious or down when times are hard. The credit crunch can bring forced significant life changes which may affect you and / or your family. 

Some symptoms of emotional distress can include:

  • Sleeping problems
  • Poor concentration
  • Poor appetite
  • Tearfulness
  • Lack of motivation

      

    For most people this will only last a few days or weeks as they tackle the challenges they face. Unfortunately for a number of people, the anxious or low feelings may remain and begin to impact on everyday life. If you feel like you can’t cope or life is becoming too difficult to deal with you should speak to someone, seek help, contact your Gp.

    Local developments

    NHS Oldham have been working with NHS North West (historically known as the Strategic Health Authority) to provide a service to people affected by the economic downturn in Oldham. This service is accessible via your GP and will offer low intensity psychological support, self help and face to face or telephone counselling. Please contact your GP if you feel you would benefit from accessing this service.
