Orchard House is a community based resource which is part of Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. It provides a service within a friendly and supportive environment to meet the mental health, physical and general wellbeing needs of the population of Oldham who are over 65 years of age and have functional mental health problems, i.e. psychosis, anxiety and/or depression.
These needs are met through the provision of
individual and/or group assessment and treatment sessions according to
individual need.
Group sessions take the form of a variety of social, self-help,
therapy and recreational activities.
Service provision is based upon the mental
health Recovery Model and social inclusion. There is a strong focus on
community integration.
Partnership and development links are formed and maintained with
various mainstream agencies in addition to mental health teams.
We do not operate a direct referral procedure. All referrals must be made by either Consultant Psychiatrists, members of the Community Mental Health Team within Mental Health Services for Older People, or ward staff from the in-patient ward.
Our comprehensive therapeutic programme incorporates many social inclusion activities which take place in the community. Our service users are encouraged to participate in these activities in order that they may have continued support after they are discharged from Orchard House.
On Wednesday mornings we hold a weekly coffee
morning at the Albion Club in Royton Precinct. The morning includes a
variety of social activities. This event is open to all our service
users regardless of their day of attendance at Orchard House.
Carers and members of the public are also warmly invited to join
us at these events.
On
Thursday afternoons we hold a weekly social event at the Canon George
Church and Parish Hall on
The
social events are varied and include activities such as beetle drives,
sing-alongs, tea dances, bingo, (with prizes) creative movement, quizzes
and gentle exercise programmes. There is a charge of £1.00 entry fee which includes soft drinks
and coffee/tea and biscuits.
On some occasions we hold a pub type quiz and refreshments on these occasions include shandy,
potato crisps, chocolate and tea/coffee and biscuits.
